Hello again, and welcome to this weeks
letter. I hope you are well.
There's a certain air of excitement at home
at the moment. Marina and I are getting ready to
go away on a trip to Sydney this Friday (for a
week), to take part in a medieval dance workshop
(a hobby we share and have great interest
in).

Of course, while we're there we'll be doing
some shopping too :-) The Internet may make
shopping easier, but for some things I much
prefer going into the shop and looking at the
items, just so I know exactly what I'm
getting.
Except for clothes shopping. I hate clothes
shopping!
(BTW, since I'll be away, there won't be a
newsletter sent out next week.)

In case you missed my message on Saturday,
just a quick note to let you know I've put
together a new compilation product with over 31
hours of audio and video training on running a
successful Internet based business. I think it's
rather neat (and superb value for money), but
then again I'm probably biased :-)
Do have a look - you may find it useful.

This weeks condensed interview is from
Richard Quek. Richard's interview was on the
topic of getting extra traffic to a web site
(something every web site owner wants!) Richard
wrote a book on the subject, and was happy to
share some of his tips and experience in this
interview.
ANP: Is all traffic created
equal? Should I always be looking at the raw
numbers (ie: 10,000 visitors), or are there
other factors I need to consider?
Richard: Not all traffic is created
equal. You may get plenty of traffic like
those from start page exchanges or other
similar programs, but the response and
conversion is very low.
The number of visitors to a web site is
not an accurate representation of success.
There are a few important factors to
consider:
- Are they targeted visitors? It's no
use trying to sell ice cream to the
Eskimos. Likewise it is a waste of time
trying to sell dog products to a person
who is not interested in dogs.
- Do these visitors trust you? If you
have a rapport with these visitors, the
conversion will be much higher compared to
blasting your ad to people who do not know
or trust you. Spamming will never produce
a good conversion rate as these people do
not know and trust you. All you'll get are
spam complaints!
- Conversion is important. Getting
visitors to a web site that is not
effective will not provide the intended
result. If you have your own web site, you
need good copywriting. It's word that
sells!
ANP: If I have no budget for
generating traffic, what is the best way for
me to get people to my web site? Would that
change if I had (say) a thousand or so to
spend on generating traffic?
Richard: For those who do not have
a budget these are some ways that you could
use:
- Safelist. You can join for free. Most
safelists allow members to post once a
week. Join the bigger safelists, ie those
that have bigger members list.
Here are a few that you may wish to check
out:
- You can try posting to FFA (Free for
all sites) and Classified ads. These may
not be responsive but you can use free
bulk submission service. The best is:
http://www.worldwidepromoter.com
- If you have your own product or
service, a Joint Venture is the best way
to generate traffic. Look for Internet
marketers who have big opt-in list and
offer them a joint venture. Everyone is
motivated by money. Therefore offer them a
higher commission rate.
- Viral Marketing. You can join the
start page exchanges to generate free
traffic. These may not be targeted but
you'll be able to drive a fair amount of
traffic. There may be a small amount of
conversion. I would suggest joining a
Viral Traffic Machine program like:
For those who have a budget, I would
suggest placing Solo Ads with targeted
Ezines. This strategy may be expensive, but
it'll generate a reasonable amount of traffic
for you. My advice is to go for more
responsive ezines. You can join Terry Dean's
'Netbreakthroughs' membership site where he
periodically place solo ads and make
recommendations.

Another effective way is to use the Pay
per-click search engines like Overture or
Kanoodle. The Google AdWord is also a great
place to get targeted traffic.
ANP: Is viral marketing still as
effective today with so many things vying for
people's attention?
Richard: Viral marketing is an
effective strategy to generate free traffic.
It is still effective today but there are a
few things that you need to consider:
- Make the report or ebook unique. I
would suggest that you write it yourself.
Write on something you are passionate
about. It need not be more than 100 pages.
Anything that is more than 15 pages should
be good.
- Allow the reader to rebrand it. This
will encourage them to pass the reports or
ebooks around.
- You need to promote it aggressively.
One way to get the necessary leverage is
to source for a membership site and help
solve their problem. Write an ebook to
help their members. If the ebook is useful
to their members, the owner will gladly
promote it to their members. That's a
great start!
ANP: What are the three most common
mistakes you see people make when they're
trying to get traffic to their site?
Richard: These are the 3 things
that people should avoid:
- Trying to save money. Internet
marketing is a business and as such you
need to invest wisely in software, tools
and resources that will assist you to
automate your traffic generation. There
are excellent software programs that will
assist by saving you much time and
effort.
- Listening to too many advices and
trying everything. I think that you should
learn as many strategies as possible but
only focus on a few that work for
you.
- Action. Many people never get started
because they are trying to learn
everything before taking action. My advice
is to start with something simple
first.

Well, that's it for me this week. Be sure to
check out my compilation product that I released
last Saturday, with over 31 hours of audio and
video training!
