Hello again, and welcome to this weeks
letter. I hope this week has treated you well so
far.
If you read last weeks issue, you might
remember that Marina and I were going to be part
of a play on the weekend (we were doing some
medieval dances as part of the show). The play
turned out really well, and everyone in the
audience seemed to enjoy it.
(Although let me tell you, the practice we
had on the Friday night before was a total
shambles. Marina and I didn't hold out much hope
for the play at all! Thankfully, they proved us
wrong :-) )
Unfortunately the play wasn't without
incident. Marina managed to hurt her foot, and a
trip to the doctor today has told us she has
tendonitis (in the Achilles tendon). So she's on
crutches for a week or so, and isn't allowed to
dance for at least two weeks.
Here's hoping her foot heals soon.

I need to make a quick clarification about
the email I sent out yesterday, as one reader
pointed out that I didn't make one point very
clear (thanks Trevor).

On the above page, I refer to how my income
from my web sites has increase by 432%, but at
the same time I talk about cheques of $192.45
and $415.71.
$415.71 is only a bit over twice $192.45, and
certainly not 432%! What's going on here!? Am I
trying to pull a fast one?
No, not at all. What I wasn't clear about is
that the 432% is based on my *monthly* income.
The $192.45 was the total for *two* months (and
when you average the number you get a single
month total of $96.23). That's where the 432%
figure comes from.
This was implied on the page, but I didn't
make it totally clear. I've since added a few
extra words to the page that makes it more
obvious.
Not sure what I'm talking about? Find out all
about it here...

This week I continue the practice of the last
few weeks, and present another condensed
interview. This time the interview is with
Rosalind Gardner, an *extremely* successful
affiliate marketer (and also the publisher of a
very popular book on the topic). You don't want
to miss Rosalind's advice.
ANP: What did you do to build
from your first sale as an affiliate?
Rosalind: I became very diligent
about keeping track of every aspect of the
site. I logged exactly how many visitors came
to my site, and how many clicked through to
One and Only, and from which links. I knew
how many had signed up for free profiles, and
how many converted to sales, including
whether those sales were for 1, 3, 6 or 12
month memberships.
As soon as pay per click search engine
advertising became available, I gave it a
try, and haven't looked back since. Honestly,
PPC advertising was truly a godsend to
Internet marketers.
ANP: Could you share a few of the tips
on using PPC advertising that you have learnt
over the years?
Rosalind: Don't let the editorial
staff get you down if you're trying to list a
site that has affiliate links and they're
being *@&^-! about your title and
description. Follow their guidelines, keep at
it, and you'll get your site listed.
Then, start with a small deposit and keep
very good track of your clicks to sales
ratios. You have to know your conversion
ratios to be able to determine how much you
can pay for keywords and still make a good
profit.
For instance, if you want 100% returns on
your investment and your conversion ratio is
1% on a $20 product, your average keyword
cost shouldn't exceed 10 cents.
The math:
1 sale per 100 visitors = $20.00
Income
10 cents x 100 visitors = $10.00 Cost to
Advertise (Expense)
Income - Expense = $10.00 Profit
Be sure to look for relevant keywords that
have few bidders and lower costs.
ANP: What do you look for in a company
when you decide if you should sign up or
not?
Rosalind: After I confirm that the
product or service is a good fit for my site,
and of excellent quality, I have a list of 15
questions that I like to get answers to
before I join a program.
- Is the company reputable?
- Is there an affiliate agreement? What
are the conditions of the agreement?
- Under what conditions can the
agreement be terminated?
- Is there a fee for joining or
set-up?
- Does the program require
exclusivity?
- Does the site 'leak'?
- Do you get paid-per-sale, per-click or
per-lead?
- Do you get credit for recurring
sales?
- Lifetime commissions?
- Is the tracking real-time?
- Does the company use cookies? How long
are they set for?
- Do they use third party auditing &
billing, i.e. iBill or CCBill?
- How will you get paid? Cash? Credit?
Food Stamps?
- How often will you get paid?
- Is there a minimum payout amount? How
much is it?
Each question above is important, but the
first is perhaps the most important. I
believe anyone who has been promoting
affiliate programs in a variety of fields or
categories for more than a couple of years,
has likely been stung by a fly-by-night
operator. Nowadays, that's totally
unnecessary.
ANP: If you were starting from scratch
with affiliate marketing today, what steps
would you follow to achieve success?
Rosalind: I have a formula for
building successful affiliate sites. It's
comprised of 8 steps.
- Choose a niche in which you are very
interested.
- Confirm the existence of a target
market for that niche.
- Find relevant products with affiliate
programs (don't sign up for them just
yet!)
- Register a relevant domain name.
- Build the site and write endorsements
for those products you plan to
promote.
- Sign up for the affiliate
programs.
- Promote, promote, promote.
- Follow Steps #1 through #7 again.
Persistence is truly the key to success,
in any business, online or off.

Well, that's it for me this week. In case you
missed my email yesterday (that I talked about
above), here's the page it was talking about
again...
http://www.achievenetprofits.com/asecrets.shtml
Be sure to take a look - the information has
made a huge difference to my sites, and I'm sure
it will do the same to yours.
Till next time.
Cheers,
Jason
