Hello again, and welcome to the long delayed
latest letter. If you joined us via the 117
Christmas Gifts promotion (or even if you didn't
:-) ), I hope you enjoy what you see here.
I want to apologize for taking January off
from writing this letter. It wasn't my original
plan, but over the Christmas break my wife and I
came up with a business idea that we can both
work together on. So I've been devoting almost
all of my time to that over the past month.
The great thing about this new business is
it's something I've wanted to do for a really
long time. The only downside is that it isn't a
huge money earner, as average ebook prices are
$2-$8 (with an absolute maximum of around $20
:-) ). But it's something I want to do, so I'm
going ahead with it anyway
(Just let me stress that I don't recommend
this to you as a good business move!)

If you have only recently joined the
newsletter, you may not know that I've put
together a page of specials for my subscribers.
These are products I have resell rights to, that
subscribers can buy at 50% off the normal
price.
The latest product added to that page is "5
Fast Ways to Explode Your Opt-In List" (only
released in the last few days). As the name
suggests, this collection of videos will show
you 5 ways you can quickly build your own opt-in
list, without lots of fuss and hassle. Best of
all, you get master reprint rights with it!
This new video collection, plus many many
more, are available for half price at http://www.achievenetprofits.com/special/

Before I get into todays interview snippet, I
want to tell you about a great resource I came
across a week or so ago.
The site is called "Internet Marketing
Support Network", and it's run by Carmen
Maranon. I actually interviewed Carmen last
year, and I was extremely impressed by how she
was enthusiastic and eager to help others with
their online business. In fact, this weeks
interview snippet is from her :-)
Carmen's site is set up to help those new to
online marketing get the guidance they need. But
even if you have been around for a while, you're
sure to learn a thing or two in the site. Carmen
has case studies, articles, downloads, a
question and answer area, and much much
more.
I won't try and list everything that the site
has - there's too much! Instead, I urge you to
read more about it at http://www.achievenetprofits.com/imsn
As a special bonus, if you decide to join the
site (through my link), just send me a copy of
your receipt and you can have either a free
lifetime membership to my own membership site
(Achieve Net Profits, valued at $67), *or* you
can choose three of the books from the
"specials" page I mentioned above as
bonuses.
Be sure to check it out!

As I mentioned above, this weeks snippet is
from Carmen Maranon. Carmen isn't one of the big
names that you hear all over the place - she's
one of the quiet achievers who sits back and
gets things done. She's been working online
since 1996, so she's seen a lot of changes over
the time!
Whether you're new to Internet marketing, or
you've been in it for a while, it's very easy to
fall prey to expert marketers convincing you to
spend money on a new product. Heck, we've all
done it (I'm as guilty as anyone else). Here's
some great tips from Carmen on some of the
tactics they use, and how you can avoid them
(allowing you to make an informed decision, not
an emotional one).
#1) Those stupid java deadline
scripts! I hate them with a passion, and some
marketers still use it. On top of that, some
people have the nerve to add, "This is not
one of those java deadline scripts", to
deceive their visitors.
Makes it all the more difficult for those
of us who offer genuine limited time offers,
because people come back the day *after* the
deadline to see if the date has been bumped
up. When they realize it was indeed a REAL
limited time special, they ask if I can make
an exception and extend the expired deal for
them.
You can see if this offer is valid by
using the free "Wayback Machine" at http://www.archive.org/web/web.php.
It's an archive of website "snapshots" taken
every month or so. One company advertised on
their site, "Get in now for just $10 because
the price will be raised to $25 tomorrow
noon!"... for over a year!
Also try setting your computer calendar a
few days ahead. If the date readjusts to the
"future" date on your computer, you know it's
a sham.
Find a phone number. If you absolutely
must have this product, pick up the phone and
ask if this offer will really expire as
advertised.
#2) There are marketers who can write
kick-butt sales copy, and use that talent to
take advantage of their readers. They even
teach you how to do it too... I can't
remember where I saw it, but, there was a
website boasting they will teach you how to
write so well, you could sell ice to an
Eskimo. Think of it this way, if they're
willing to teach you how to manipulate others
into buying something they don't need, what
makes you think they're not pulling the same
stunt on you?
#3) The same 5 gurus endorsing one
another. It's like an exclusive club where
they speak highly only of one another -
almost like they're in love with each other -
convincing others that they're the "Creme De
La Creme" of online marketing, and unless it
comes with their endorsement, it's not worth
buying.
One of those "big name" marketers recently
sent his list, "This is the only traffic
building program you'll ever need!"... and
later that week, he sent, "You must get this
traffic building program now, or you'll
regret it!" - for a completely different
product authored by one of his other
kissy-kissy friends. There's no shame.
Some of the finest materials were written
by "unknowns", or are available for free on
the web. I'll also tell you that I've known
some marketers who are practically broke,
probably worse off than the people they're
trying to sell to, and get endorsements from
"big names" about how successful they are,
because of who they know. Of course, the
endorsement doesn't really help improve sales
because most people who read your sales
letter can actually "feel" if you can do what
you claim, or trying to cover up what you
cannot do. My point is, just because a
product gets praises from those with
celebrity status, it doesn't relieve you of
practicing due diligence.
#4) They issue an "open challenge" to
prove some guru wrong about his/her product,
when they're actually affiliates promoting
those products. One guy even announced he'd
"hypnotize" a big-name into dishing out the
dirt about his products (for which the
hypnotist was an affiliate).
#5) Speaking of "hypnotizing", I find
sales letters that begin with, "As you read
this letter, you'll begin to feel..."
incredibly annoying. That's so gross! They
think they're going to control how I feel
now?!!
#6) When marketers claim to "give you"
$xxxx just for trying out the product, only
to find out that you're not really going to
receive cash, but, a discount for another
product he's promoting.
#7) Offering resale rights to products,
then, turning around and giving it away for
free themselves. It's stabbing your resellers
in the back.

I hope these tips allow you to pick and
choose what you buy based on need, not
emotion!
It's rather ironic me mentioning this, but I
do have to mention that Carmen's full interview
is part my (paid) membership site, which
contains a collection of 83 interviews, 274
downloads (many with reprint rights), 67
discounts and 975 minutes of training videos.
You can join now by visiting http://www.achievenetprofits.com
- and no, I don't use any of the tactics Carmen
mentioned above! :-)
Well, that's it for me this week. Hopefully
I'll be able to schedule my time a bit better
now, and work on both this newsletter and my new
business. It certainly won't be a month until
the next newsletter, that's for sure!
See you next week.
Cheers,
Jason
