I hope this weeks issue finds you well.
What an exciting day it is for Marina and
myself today! :-) I mentioned last week that I
had been looking at new cars, as the engine in
my current car was about to die.
(Not surprising really - it's 18 years old,
and has done 400,000km. Not a bad effort!)
Well, we've decided on a new car, and the
bank has agreed to lend us the money for it. So
later on today we'll be picking it up!
If you're interested in such things, our new
car is a Kia Cerato. They've only just been
released in Australia (they came out at the
start of this month), and so far all the reviews
about them have been fairly favorable. I guess
we'll find out soon though :-)
I'll put some pictures on the site next
week.

Another thing I mentioned last week was a
workshop that Rebecca Hagel was going to be
running. Unlike regular workshops, this one was
going to be done online - so you don't have to
pay for travel and accommodation to attend.
Rebecca isn't the only one teaching during
the workshop - you'll also learn from successful
marketers like Yanik Silver, Rosalind Gardner,
John Reese and Willie Crawford.
And best of all, you'll be creating your own
product as the workshop progresses, so by the
end of it you should have your own product ready
(or almost ready) to sell!
Make sure you check it out soon, as the price
rises at the end of July (if there are any seats
left that is).

(BTW, if you're a member of my membership
site you can sign up at a $75 discount - but
only if you sign up before 10pm EST Sunday, July
25th.)

This weeks interview snippet comes from Andy
Jenkins. Andy has had a massive amount of
success online from setting up Yahoo stores. In
fact, he has also co-written a book on the
subject.
What is a Yahoo store? Basically it is a web
site that you set up and host at Yahoo. They
handle the hosting, a shopping cart, and
integrate with your merchant account. You just
have to set up the store (with what you're
selling), and then ship items out when you sell
them.
It's a very simple way to start your own
online store, without having to worry about all
the technical details yourself. And even if you
don't have your own products to sell, you can
use a method called "dropshipping" (where you
sell a product, then get the manufacturer to
ship it to the customer for you).
This is what Andy had to say about what you
need to know to set up your own Yahoo store:
As I mentioned, you can enter into
the eCommerce industry with a Yahoo! Store
for about $40 a month. Having said that,
their services are scalable. They also offer
large, more feature laden packages at the $99
and $299 price point. As someone just
starting out, with the idea of testing a
market place (And you must ALWAYS test a
marketplace, right? RIGHT!) you can use their
entry level service and upgrade once your
business grows.
Like any legitimate direct-to-consumer
business, you'll need a way to take credit
card payments, so you'll need a merchant
account. At the time of this writing, Yahoo!
has a deal with Paymentech which waives the
start up fees and is totally integrated with
the Yahoo! system.
Yahoo! offers unparalleled flexibility in
terms of site design, depending on your web
design skills. The easiest way to create a
store is through the Yahoo! Store Manager -
which is totally browser based. So, you don't
need any HTML authoring software, or even a
working knowledge of HTML to set up a Yahoo!
Store front.
In addition, Yahoo! also distributes a
software program called Site Builder, free of
charge. Site Builder allows a store owner to
create unique and custom store designs in the
same way a desktop publish might create a
mail piece.
Finally, if you are a web designer, of
have skill with any Web Authoring software,
you can create your own, totally custom store
design, and use a function called "Store
Tags" to integrate your site with the Yahoo!
Store shopping cart. It's extremely
powerful.

Of course, Andy covered a lot more material
on the subject, including finding the right
product to sell, finding a supplier of that
product, how to deal with competition (and why
competition is a *good* thing), and much much
more.
Overall, it's a great primer on setting up
and using a Yahoo store. But then, since he
wrote a book on the subject, what would you
expect? :-)
Well, that's about it for me this week. Don't
forget to check out the workshop that Rebecca
Hagel is running. It could very well be the
thing you need to get your online business
powering ahead faster than you ever thought
possible!

Till next week, I wish you all the best with
your online business.
Cheers,
Jason
