Welcome to this weeks issue of the Achieve
Net Profits Letter. I hope you find it both
interesting and useful.
I'm going to slightly change the order of
things in the newsletter this week, because I've
got a *superb* tip for you (although be sure to
read to the bottom of the newsletter - you'll be
glad you did!)
Actually, to be honest this weeks tip is more
like a article than a tip.
This week I interviewed Charles Burke.
Charles isn't a huge marketing person (although
obviously he needs to know marketing to run his
business). Instead, what Charles specializes in
is motivation and self inspiration.
Woah, don't run away on me just yet! You may
not believe it, but these things are heavily
related to how successful you will be in your
online business. Why do you think so many top
athletes talk about the "mental game"?
Charles had a *lot* of information to pass
on. In fact, it's the longest interview I've
ever done. But what he passed on is absolutely
amazing.
This is what he wrote when I asked him about
how to set a goal that will motivate you:
When we use the term "goal" it
sounds like such a simple little word.
But some words aren't as simple as they
seem. They carry a lot of associations and
emotional freight. Take words like flag,
motherhood, marriage, and honor, or other
words like murderer, terror, helpless, and
worthless.
When we take up a seemingly simple little
concept like goal, it's easy to underestimate
what we're dealing with. Sure, a goal is
something we set and then go accomplish,
right? But how often does it happen that
way?
Anybody who's ever tried their hand at
goals knows they can be as slippery as a
handful of watermelon seeds. We decide we'll
do something, intend to do it, and maybe even
get off to a fast start, but then things
start going awry. Either that, or we run out
of momentum and slow to a confused halt.
Isn't that a fair description of what
happens?
Look at it this way. If accomplishing our
goals is so simple, why are there so many
books, tapes, seminars, consultants and
coaches specialized in helping people do this
simple little task? Short answer? It's not
simple, it just looks that way on the
surface.
And people have been coming at this same
question for thousands of years.
Literally.
You know the word "sin"? That word is from
the Aramaic "khata" which was an archer's
term. If he missed the mark he was aiming at,
the archer said he had sinned -- aimed and
missed the target.
Of course, that word has gotten hijacked
by well-meaning clerics and turned into
something far more dreadful than the original
meaning.
But haven't we done the same thing with
goals? They just seem so I. M. P. O. R. T. A.
N. T. somehow.
And if we don't achieve what we aim at, we
don't shrug our shoulders, smile and say we
missed our goal. Instead, we get really
emotional, say we "failed," and usually beat
ourselves up for being no good or being
incapable of success.
So it's important to realize that goals
never paralyze us. It's all that emotion
attached. We're mixing up the goal with all
the other ideas and associations attached to
it. We're panicking at the thought that
OMIGOD, MAYBE I WON'T REACH MY GOAL -- MAYBE
I'LL FAIL -- that's that holds us back.
And that only means one thing. We've taken
our eye off the goal and are staring into the
jaws of failure instead. Believe it or not,
the people who consistently reach their goals
say it's simple. Anytime you feel overcome by
the fear of failure, it's because you're
LOOKING at failure, not your goal.
Pry your attention off the fear, put it
back where it belongs, on the target, and
you'll lose a major chunk of the
paralysis.
