1. From the Editor
Welcome to this weeks newsletter! If you were
with me last week, I hope you took of Melvin
Ng's special offer for readers of this
newsletter (a package of software and books
worth over $320 - and there are some real "jems"
in there). The URL for the offer again is
http://internetbizresources.com/jason.htm
Speaking of special offers, I've got one in
the works that I'm sure you'll like. At least,
*I* think it's a great deal... but then again, I
may be a little biased ;-). I'll tell you more
about it on Friday, so be sure to watch out for
my email.
And on the topic of telling you about things,
its probably about time I updated you on the
changes that will be happening to Achieve Net
Profits in the near future.
As I mentioned when I announced the survey
late last year, Achieve Net Profits will be
evolving from a free newsletter into a paid
membership site.
There will still be a free newsletter sent
out, but the format will change. It will be
written much more in the style of a letter (like
Phil Wiley's newsletter, if you are a
subscriber).
The free newsletter won't have the interview
in it (although it will have a valuable tip from
the latest interview). It won't have any placed
ads in it (although I will still recommend
products that I have found useful from time to
time). And it will be a lot shorter (so it
should only take you a couple of minutes to
read).
[Actually, I've already gotten rid of the
placed ads in the newsletter.]
The membership site will have all the
previous interviews I have done over the last 17
months, and will have new interviews added
constantly (at least 4 a month).
The downloads section will expand
considerably. In particular, I will be adding in
many products that have master reprint rights.
These are products you can take away and sell
yourself (the ones that are fairly new anyway),
or add them as bonuses to something else you are
selling.
Heck, you could even read them if you wanted
:-).
There will be a forum, where people can get
help and chat, as well as make member-only
offers or look for JV partners.
There will be a discount area. This will have
member-only specials that I've been able to
negotiate with publishers of various ebooks,
etc. How many products are listed here at one
time, and what sort of discount I can negotiate,
I can't answer yet.
Members will have access to a large collect
of web templates (over 320) that they can take
away and use to create their own sites.
I plan on hosting the occasional
teleconference, but I don't expect the first one
to happen until March-April. Any teleconferences
I run will be free for members to attend, and a
MP3 of the teleconference will be available for
download afterwards. You will also be able to
submit any questions you have on the topic of
the teleconference ahead of time.
Based on the results of the survey, I won't
be adding web hosting as a members bonus. I
haven't totally ruled out the occasional audio
interview, but these will be rare - the survey
indicated they weren't very popular either.
One comment I received early on made me
change my mind on one point. I had originally
planned for the affiliate program to be open to
everyone. I've since changed that - only members
of the site will be able to be affiliates. The
affiliate program will only be direct referral
(ie: you will only get paid for people who you
refer, not the people they in turn refer), and
you will be paid for every month they remain a
member.
I have a few other ideas for the membership
site (training videos of some sort for example),
but these are all still up in the air.
Now the million dollar question - the
price.
Not surprisingly, the survey gave a huge
range of answers for pricing - from $0 all the
way up to $50 a month.
I understand it is difficult to put a price
on something you currently get for free, and
especially on something that you don't know the
final details about. I humbly thank everyone who
gave me an answer - even those who said "need to
know the final details" or "why should I
pay?".
In the end, I've decided to set the
membership site at the fairly standard price of
$20 a month (well, more likely $19.97 - you know
how marketers like to have prices ending in
sevens!).
However current subscribers of this
newsletter will get a reduced price when the
site launches, as a "thank you" for helping make
this newsletter a success over the past year and
a bit.
[BTW, this special price would be "locked
in" as long as you remained a member. If I ever
raised the price for the site (I might - who
knows?) you wouldn't have to pay more.]
Well, that's the current plan in a nutshell.
Construction of the site is well underway... and
taking a lot longer than I thought :-) I expect
the site to be ready for launch in early
February. I'll keep you posted!
Anyway, enough ramblings from me. Time to
tell you what's in this weeks newsletter!
My interview this week is with Matt Haller. I
first heard about Matt in Rosalind Gardner's
superb Net Profits Coach newsletter (http://www.rosalindgardner.com/).
Using SiteBuildIt, Matt was able to go from
nothing to a site that gets over 3,000 visitors
PER DAY. Not surprisingly, Matt has been able to
quit his day job (and focus on his true passion
- music).
Matt passes on some great advice, and I'm
sure you'll find at least one tip in this
interview that you can take away and use in your
own business.
The resource I have for you this week may be
rather important if you rely on search engine
traffic to get visitors to your site. As you may
know, Google made a huge change in November to
how they ranked sites. Some sites disappeared
from the top 100 overnight - sites that had been
there for months. This weeks resource is a
report on the myths and reality of the recent
changes - more on it below.
I hope you enjoy this weeks issue. And now,
on with the show!
2. Interview - Matt Haller
Sorry, this interview is no longer available in the archives. It has been moved to the membership site. You can find out more about the membership site (and how to join) by visiting here.
3. Resources - How To Prosper
With The New Google
The Florida update (as the changes Google
made in mid November to how they rank web sites
have been labelled by people), saw many sites
fall out of the top 100 - some that had been
there for a year or more.
Almost immediately, rumors started flying
about what Google were doing, and how they were
now ranking sites.
Some people concluded that Google were
penalizing "commercial" sites. Others said that
it was a ploy to get more people to pay for
AdWords.
This report, written by Dan Thies (a search
engine expert) cuts through all the theories,
and presents the facts. While it does present a
few theories of its own (after all, the only
people who know for certain how the new ranking
system works is Google), they are well
researched and presented.
In summary - no, Google isn't out to penalize
commercial sites. They are just trying to stop
the search engine spamming that has started to
become more common lately.
The report finishes out with some great
advice on building and promoting your site so it
does well in the search engines.
Even if you weren't hit by the Google changes
(I wasn't), this is still a good read. It isn't
too long (17 pages), so you can easily finish it
in one sitting.
This report is in PDF, so can be read by most
people. A link to the report has been added to
the "members only" section, along with the
existing collection of ebooks, ecourses, and
other useful sites.

4. Final Word
*IF* everything goes to plan (which, given my
luck over the last few weeks, it may not ;-) ),
my interview next week should be with John
Glube. John has been providing a fantastic
service over the last few months, writing
articles that translate all the "legal speak"
the government likes to come up with into simple
language that you and I can understand.
I've asked John questions on both the new
spam laws that have come in (both US and
overseas), but also about the various
requirements that the FTC have for online
businesses.
The FTC crackdown has become old news lately
(people aren't pushing any new products, and
there haven't been any big-name Internet
marketers getting in trouble recently). But that
doesn't mean the requirements have gone
away.
That interview (fingers crossed!) should be
ready for next week.
(and if it isn't, I guess I'll panic a lot
:-) )
Till next week take care, and may your
profits keep rising.
"A business absolutely devoted to service
will have only one worry about profits. They
will be embarrassingly large." -- Henry Ford
