1. From the Editor
Happy New Year!
I apologize for the newsletter being a couple
of days late. Unfortunately, I didn't have an
interview ready for you on Tuesday. Strangely
enough, the holiday period has meant that most
people have other things on their mind (other
than doing interviews) :-)
Luckily I have one ready now, and I'm sure
you'll enjoy it. More on it below.
Speaking of the Christmas holidays, I hope
you had a relaxing time over the Christmas
holidays. Mine certainly was.
One of the hilights for me was opening my
presents on Christmas day. I guess I'm still a
kid at heart - I love opening presents! :-)
I had two wonderful surprises this year.
Marina (my wife) gave me a computer game I had
been eying off for a few weeks (Dynasty Tactics
2 for anyone who's interested), while Marina's
parents really went over the top and gave me a
digital camera!
Needless to say both have had a bit of a work
out (the camera more than the game at the
moment), and both will be used much more over
the coming weeks!
In news slightly more related to Internet
marketing, just before Christmas I launched a
new product.. my first ebook (not related to
Internet marketing).
Selling online isn't anything new for me -
I've been selling Macintosh software that I've
written online since 1994. But my first ebook -
now that's something else :-)
Needless to say, I was rather nervous when I
'released' the book. Would it be a huge success?
Would it flop? Would I get flooded with hate
mail from idiots who had nothing better to do
with their time?
Alas, so far the response hasn't been the
best. Up until Tuesday, I'd only made one sale
from several hundred visitors.
Then the obvious hit me - the problem was the
headline! While it was a "great" headline, it
wasn't hooking the visitor at all by showing how
the book solved the problem they had. So I've
changed the headline to a different one, and
already I've had two more sales from around 100
visitors.
(and a lot more ecourse sign-ups too!)
I wish I could say that means I'm rolling in
money, but at only $9.97 per sale that isn't
really the case! :-)
Still, I'm treating this as a "test", to see
how much of a demand there is in my chosen
niche. If there is sufficient demand, I'll
expand the product and bringing out new
products. If there doesn't seem to be much
demand, I'll just leave it at the test
product.
It will be interesting to see how things work
out.
But enough about my mistakes. I should tell
you about what's in this weeks
"better-late-than-never" newsletter!
My interview this week is with Jennifer
Tripp. Jennifer recently created a product by
interviewing (over the phone) a number of
experts on how to profit from publishing a
newsletter.
The thing is, almost *anyone* can create a
product this way. If they know how ;-) Read
Jennifer's interview, and you will know how!
(By the way, I want to say a big "thank you"
to Jennifer for helping me out with this
interview at such short notice!)
The resource I have for you this week is
rather unique. I'm not providing the product -
Melvin Ng is. Melvin is offering you $323.69 of
software and ebooks. All you have to do is sign
up to his newsletter! You can find out more
below.
I hope you enjoy this weeks issue. And now,
on with the show!
2. Interview - Jennifer
Tripp
Sorry, this interview is no longer available in the archives. It has been moved to the membership site. You can find out more about the membership site (and how to join) by visiting here.
3. Resources - $323.69 of
software & ebooks (for free)
This week I've arranged a deal with Melvin
Ng, of internetbizresources.com, as the resource
of the week.
As a subscriber to my newsletter, Melvin is
offering you the chance to download a section of
ebooks and software for free from his site. All
you have to do is sign up to his newsletter.
(When you do, pay close attention to his
welcome message - I don't think I've ever seen
such a warm and friendly welcome message like
his. I'm not kidding - I'm planning on altering
mine to use the same style when I have a few
spare moments).
I was rather impressed by the books and
software on offer - they aren't the usual
selection of same old books you see everywhere
else. Take a few moments to have a look, and if
you like what you see, sign up to his
newsletter!

BTW, if you haven't had a look at it in a
while, have a browse through the "members only"
section for this newsletter. It has a large
collection of ebooks, ecourses, and other useful
sites.

4. Final Word
CAN-Spam certainly has a lot of people
wondering what is going to happen soon.
Of course, there have been several people who
have been using the FUD factor (fear,
uncertainty and doubt) to promote their own
products or services as a solution. Personally I
hate it when marketers do that.
Sure, there is a need for good information -
I'm not denying that. But using the fear that
some people have about the new law to make a
quick buck? Sorry, I don't like that idea at
all.
There have been a couple of good articles
written on the subject. Paul Myers has been
writing about it in his blog:
http://www.talkbiz.net/ramblings/weblog.php
John Glube has also written several in-depth
articles on the subject. The thing I really like
about John is he also shows you all his
reasoning, not just "this is what it means,
believe me or not". Here is the link to his
latest article:
http://www.learnsteps4profit.com/antispamga.html
His thoughts on how the act *could* be
interpreted as far as affiliate programs are
concerned won't be popular. But it shows one
problem with the new law - it isn't as clear as
it first seems (like all laws I guess).
I expect this is something that will be
covered in great depth in the coming weeks!
Till next week take care, and may your
profits keep rising.
