1. From the Editor
Welcome to this weeks newsletter! If you are
joining me through the Marketers Toolbox contest
I was running, I hope you enjoy the
newsletter.
Speaking of the contest, the winners for the
contest have been drawn. The winner of the main
prize (over $460 worth of tools and material)
was Waldo Wesley.
The winner of the referral contest (that you
entered by referring other people to the
contest) was MaLea Caver.
Congratulations to both of you!
(automatic prizes for the referral contest
will be sent out in the next day or so)
I want to thank everyone who entered the
contest. It had its highs (the nice emails I got
from people who were enjoying the contest and
newsletters) and its lows (the letters of
complaint I got from people when they broke the
contest rules and I deleted their entry). But
overall it was a positive thing.
Mind you, a failure at my web host last week
almost threw a spanner in the works. They had a
hard drive fail on their server, and guess who
had their account on that hard drive :-(
Now I've got to give full credit to my web
host (Site5). The situation could have been a
LOT worse than it was in the end. They back up
their systems every night, so once the drive had
been replaced they were able to restore
everything from backup.
The end result? I lost around 12 hours worth
of mail (so if you wrote to me last week and
didn't get a reply, I'm sorry but I never
received your letter), and I had to restore the
changes I had made to the web site for last
weeks newsletter.
Oh, and re-enter the few new subs/unsubs I
knew about for my lists between the backup and
the time of the hard drive failure.
It could have been a lot lot worse.
But it did make me think about what would
have happened if I had lost EVERYTHING from my
account.
I wouldn't have been too bad off. I try to
make sure I back up copies of my lists every
week, and I always have a local copy of my web
site on my computer (since I edit it on my
computer before uploading it).
But my backups aren't perfect. There are some
things I've set up on the web site I don't have
records of anywhere else. Needless to say, this
is bad!
So while the hard drive failure was a bad
thing, in the end it wasn't a bad situation, and
it has given me a good chance to better prepare
myself against any future failures. Obviously I
hope they never happen, but as they say its
better to be safe than sorry!
Anyway, enough about that. I want to tell you
about this weeks interview.
The interview for this week is with Dean
Wiebe. Dean is the person behind the mailing
list software ListMail Pro (the same software I
use to send out this newsletter).
http://www.achievenetprofits.com/listmailpro/
Dean built up his business because he didn't
want a regular 9-5 job (a feeling I'm sure we
can all relate to). And his success with
ListMail Pro has meant he is free of the 9-5
grind! I spoke with Dean about how he came up
with the idea, how he built up his business, and
also what you should look for when comparing
mailing list software.
This weeks resources are two useful web sites
you are sure to find useful. The first is a blog
run by Jimmy D. Brown and Ryan Deiss - two names
I'm sure you're familiar with. They pass on some
fantastic information in their blog. The second
site offers several free web utilities you can
use, including a tool to create a web site
disclaimer, and even add a calculator to your
own site!
I hope you enjoy this weeks issue. Don't
forget that you can view all the past issues

3. Your Feedback
The web host problems for last week caused a
few problems with the voting for Chris
Carpenters interview last week. More
specifically, any votes before the problems were
lost. Which was a pity, as I felt it was a
valuable interview.
Still, there were 9 votes made after the web
host problems, and those 9 people gave the
interview a final rating of 4.56 out of 5 - a
very respectable result indeed.
Just for curiosities sake (mine if nothing
else ;-) ), here are all the results of voting
since I've introduced it 11 issues ago, sorted
from highest to lowest)
- Duncan Carver (testing) - 4.71 (7
votes)
- Chris Carpenter (AdWords) - 4.56
(9 votes)
- Allan Gardyne (affiliate marketing) -
4.47 (15 votes)
- Steven Van Yoder (public relations) -
4.3 (10 votes)
- Lana and Vincent Dorazio (infoproducts) -
4.25 (20 votes)
- Dr.Mani Sivasubramanian (blogging) -
4.18 (11 votes)
- Regena English (success story) -
4.17 (18 votes)
- Chuck McCullough (affiliate marketing)
- 4.15 (20 votes)
- Jason Mangrum (joint ventures) -
4.0 (20 votes)
- compilation (various) - 4.0 (14
votes)
- Gary Baker (general) - 3.89 (18
votes)
Hmmm, does anyone spot a pattern? I can't
really say I can!
Please keep those responses coming. They help
me get a better idea of what you do and don't
want from this newsletter.
(Of course, feel free to email your thoughts
to me if you prefer - I always like to hear from
people.)
4. Resources - In The Loop
Diary, Free Web Utilities
Jimmy D. Brown and Ryan Deiss are two of the
big names in Internet marketing. They both have
a wealth of experience behind them (along with a
large number of products!).
They have teamed up to author "In The Loop
Diary", a blog where they pass on some amazing
information (for free!)
In fact, Jimmy has said he will no longer be
publishing a newsletter - all his tips and
information that would have gone out in the
newsletter will now be added here.
I try to make sure I visit at least once a
week (if not more), and I've liked what I've
seen so far!
The second site I want to mention has a
number of useful web tools available (ie: tools
you access with your web browser). To be honest
I haven't looked at all of them - the two that
caught my eye were the disclaimer creator, and
the privacy statement creator.
But there are also tools there for making a
web page, and even adding a calculator to your
own site! Well worth having a look.
Links to both these sites have been added to
the "members only" section, along with the
existing collection of ebooks, ecourses, and
other useful sites.

5. Final Word
You know, my wife and I seem to be the proud
owners of the strangest cat in the world! (the
youngest - Discordia) Well, maybe not the
strangest - there are some weird cats out
there! But she's certainly the one that
generates the most stories.
For example, even though she's allowed
outside, she refuses to "go" anywhere but the
litter tray. Speaking of going outside, while
she likes the option to go outside (and
complains if we shut her in), she hates being
shut outside. She gets frantic. Mewing at doors,
scratching at doors, jumping up and trying to
climb through windows - the works!
And every chance she gets, she'll try and
duck into our bedroom (we keep the door closed,
but whenever we open it we have to play "catch"
with the kitten to stop her running in and
hiding under the bed.
But we probably wouldn't have it any other
way!
"A musician must make music, an artist must
paint, a poet must write if he is ultimately to
be at peace with himself. What one can be, one
must be." -- Abraham Maslow
