1. From the Editor
Welcome to this weeks issue of Achieve Net
Profits. I hope all is well with you and your
family.

I've been interviewed for another newsletter,
but not an Internet marketing newsletter. Its a
home budgeting newsletter that has just been
started by a fellow reader (Cate Brizzell).
You wouldn't know that Cate has only sent out
two issues of her newsletter - reading it you'd
think she had been publishing for at least a few
months. And the information she passes on in her
newsletter is superb.
You might think that budgeting doesn't apply
to you, or that it means reusing tea bags or
some other silliness. Wrong and wrong. Cate
shows you simple ways you can reduce how much
you spend (on clothes, food, etc) that anyone
can use.
Plus each issue includes an interview with a
subscriber on how they manage their budget. As
you know, I think interviews are one of the best
ways to learn about a topic. Even if its to
learn what not to do ;-)
You can read my interview in Cate's
newsletter at:

(and make sure you subscribe while you're
there - you won't regret it!)

One of the interests I have as far as online
business is concerned is search engines. I'm no
expert by any stretch of the imagination (I
leave that to Jill Whalen at http://HighRankings.com
). But I've managed to learn a bit over the last
couple of years, both from Jill's excellent
newsletter and from other sources.
One of the problems people run into when they
are trying to learn about search engines is all
the conflicting information out there. Some of
it is outdated, and some of it is downright
wrong (and will get your site banned!)
In short, finding the good information (and
separating it from the bad) can take a long
time.
Luckily, Sean Burns has come to the rescue
with his book "Rankings Revealed".
I'd have to say that this is the best general
introduction to search engines that I've read
anywhere on the web.
Sean lays it all out in clear and
easy-to-follow bite sized pieces. He doesn't try
to overwhelm you with information, and he
certainly doesn't recommend any "shady"
practices (like Smart Pages) that may get your
site banned.
The book is perfect for people new to the
topic of search engines, as it doesn't assume
you have any prior knowledge about optimizing
your web site.
Now one problem a book like this can have is
that it can get outdated fairly quickly (there
seem to be changes in the search engine industry
every week!)
But that won't happen with this book. Sean
has set up a forum for only people who have
bought his book. As soon as there are new
developments in the search engine industry, Sean
will let you know. More importantly, he'll also
tell you how the changes affect YOU.
If you want to learn what it takes to get
your site ranking well in the search engines, I
can highly recommend this book.

I've decided to trail a new option in this
newsletter in response to a suggestion I
received. You will now be able to rate the
interviews in the newsletter (from 1 to 5, with
5 being the best).
Ratings will be open for 1 week, and the
results will be reported in the following
newsletter.
I'll be interested to see how popular (or
not!) this new feature is ;-)

Now, without further ado, lets have a look at
what you'll find in this weeks newsletter.
My interview this week is with Steven Van
Yoder. You may not recognize the name - Steven
does most of his marketing work offline. Steven
teaches people how to become "slightly" famous
in their field, and increase their business (and
profits) as a result. He is also a strong
advocate of promoting Internet businesses
offline.
I've got to say I really like the info Steven
passed on in his interview - it is a very
educational read, and one you don't want to
miss.
The resource this week has a rather grand
name, but is a great read never the less. Too
often we get hung up on buying books that will
tell us the secret of getting more traffic, the
secret of writing killer ads, the secret of...
you get the idea. But we forget about the one
thing that will determine if we succeed or fail
- ourselves. More on this below.
I hope you enjoy this weeks issue. Don't
forget that you can view all the past issues

Overwhelmed By It All?
When you are starting out, it can
all seem so confusing. There is a lot
of conflicting and just plain out of
date information out on the net. This
guide lays everything you need to know
out in clear, no-nonsense, no hype
terms.

3. Resources - The Ultimate Success Secret
What is the ultimate secret to success
online? Is it knowing how to get more visitors
to your site? Knowing how to convert visitors
into buyers? Or is it knowing how to use a
mailing list to increase your profits?
True, all those things are important. But its
really your attitude, and how you approach
everything, that will determine whether you
succeed or fail in the end.
Anthony Stillwell & Terry Gibbs talk about
the two things that will decide your success -
Drive & Chance.
Chance will win you the lottery. Drive will be
what enables you to build up your business to
great heights.
Its a good read, and very motivational.
This ebook is in PDF, so can be read by most
people. A link to the ebook has been added to
the "members only" section, along with the
existing collection of ebooks, ecourses, and
other useful sites.

4. Final Word
My computer (a laptop) is currently playing
up. The power supply seems to be failing.
However when I took it in to the computer shop,
everything was working fine. Then I brought it
back and... you guessed it... it isn't working
again.
Don't you hate the way computers seem to know
what you are trying to do? Sigh!
On the plus side, our home alarm should be going
in this weekend, so we shouldn't have to worry
about any more unexpected visitors. Which is a
relief - once is enough!
Till next week, I wish you much success in
your online business.
"It is a mistake to suppose that men succeed
through success; they much oftener succeed
through failures. Precept, study, advice, and
example could never have taught them so well as
failure has done." -- Samuel Smiles
