1. From the Editor
Hello, and welcome to this weeks issue of
Achieve Net Profits. If
this is your first issue, I hope you find the
information here
useful. If you've been a reader for a while,
thanks for your
continued support!
I received an interesting question this week
after sending out my
recommendation for Rosalind Gardner's new book
"The Super
Affiliates Handbook".
If you read the sales letter, you will see that
Rosalind mentions
her book will show you why mini-sites don't
work.
http://www.achievenetprofits.com/superaffiliatehandbook/
I've mentioned my support of mini sites (and
Phil's excellent
book on the subject - "Mini Site Profits") many
times in this
newsletter. The reader was wondering what
exactly Rosalind said
about mini sites in her book, and how both
statements could be
true.
http://www.achievenetprofits.com/minisiteprofits/
First of all, the term mini site can refer to a
lot of things.
Once, it used to refer to any small site
(usually with only a few
pages). These days, Phil (and others, including
myself) use it to
refer to sites that have around 10 pages.
Perhaps a better term
for such sites is "mini-theme sites".
In her book, Rosalind uses the term "mini site"
to refer to a one
or two page site. These sorts of sites are
sometimes called
"micro sites".
As Rosalind points out, the main disadvantage
with such a site is
you aren't providing anything to the reader -
any reason to click
through, trust you, etc. Another disadvantage is
it is very hard
to get a one or two page site listed well in the
search engines
On the other hand, once you start getting up
around the 10 pages
mark, you solve both problems. There is more
information on the
site to build a visitors trust, and search
engines like the
additional pages as well.
Do mini sites (as Phil advocates) work? Yes.
Do content sites (as Rosalind suggests) work?
Yes.
Which is better?
That depends! ;-)
Mini sites are quicker to build, but you will
earn less with each
site. So to make a good living, you need a lot
of mini sites.
A content site takes a lot longer to build, but
will (usually!)
make a lot more than a single mini site. Such a
site has more
pages to draw people in, and can offer more
products (so visitors
are more likely to find something to interest
them).
It is debatable what type of site takes more
work to maintain.
Phil aims to make "build and forget" sites -
once they are up,
you do very little with them.
But he has had a lot of experience with such
sites. For the rest
of us, some work is usually required to 'tweak'
things - at least
for the first few months.
Ultimately, both methods work for promoting
affiliate programs.
Which method is right for you really depends on
you.
Phil's guide to mini sites is a definite must if
you want to go
that way - you will learn everything you need to
know about
picking your topic, building the site, etc.

Rosalind's book is honestly by far the best book
on affiliate
marketing I have ever read. She will show you
how to build your
entire business around content sites - and in
very clear, easy to
follow steps.

Now that I've managed to totally confuse you
with my explanation,
time to tell you about what's in this weeks
newsletter ;-)
My interview this week is with Harvey Segal.
Harvey is probably
best known for his free ebooks on ClickBank, Ad
Tracking and
Forums. His books have brought him a lot of
success online, and I
spoke with him about the books, choosing a
niche, and the changes
he has made to his business over the years.
The resource I have for you this week is a case
study on the
updated version of "33 Days To Online Profits"
that Yanik Silver
and Jim Edwards released late last year. It is
an interesting
read on how they went about creating the updated
version.
I hope you enjoy it. Don't forget that you can
view
all the past issues online at

3. Resources - Case Study: 33 Days Video
Enhanced Ebook
I don't know about you, but I like to find
out how the "experts"
work. That's one of the reasons why I like doing
interviews - its
a chance to hear from people first hand how they
do things.
You may have heard of the book "33 Days To
Online Profits", by
Yanik Silver and Jim Edwards. They recently
released an enhanced
version of their ebook, adding videos to explain
the various
steps in their book that their customers had had
the most trouble
following.
This case study talks about the new product -
how they came up
with the idea, how they started work on it, the
problems they
encountered, and finally how they went about
promoting the new
version.
I did feel the case study was a little short
(I would have liked
a few more details in some areas), but it is
still a very
interesting read.
This ebook is in PDF, so can be read by most
people. A link to
the ebook has been added to the "members only"
section, along
with the existing collection of ebooks,
ecourses, and other
useful sites.

4. Final Word
Winter has arrived here in Tasmania - I
noticed the first batch
of snow on the mountain behind the city on the
weekend, and the
air is certainly "crisp".
The cold mornings make me want to stay in bed
when I wake up
(you've probably had the feeling - you're nice
and warm under the
covers, but the air outside is cold and you just
want to stay
put).
But alas, with a J.O.B to still go to,
staying in bed all day
isn't an option. Yet! ;-)
I hope you enjoyed Harvey's interview. He
certainly has some
amazing tips to pass on. And be sure to check
out his sites -
there is a lot of useful information there as
well.
I know I talked about it above, but I've got
to mention Rosalind
Gardner's new book on affiliate marketing again.
"The Super
Affiliates Handbook" is by far the best book
I've ever read on
the subject.
I say that with all honesty. It isn't just a
book on affiliate
marketing - it is a guide to building your
online success around
affiliate programs. I found it to be a superb
read, and it has
been added to my 'top 5' list in the members
section (where I
expect it to firmly stay).

Till next week, I wish you much success in
your online business.
